Temple-centric permanent ghats from Basara to Bhadrachalam; facilities for 2 lakh pilgrims at a time, CM seeks central funds and special package
Hyderabad, September 2025:
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to take up permanent arrangements for the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu, calling it the “South India Kumbh Mela.”
In a high-level review today, the CM ordered the development of temple-centric ghats at all famous shrines along the river Godavari—from Basara to Bhadrachalam— ensuring facilities for at least 2 lakh devotees to take the holy dip in a single day.
Revanth Reddy asked officials to prepare separate project reports for each temple, including Basara, Kaleshwaram, Dharmapuri and Bhadrachalam. Ghats should be designed to reflect each temple’s local prominence, he stressed.
The CM also said temples located near national and state highways should be given priority, with roads, parking, drinking water, accommodation and bathing ghats developed on a permanent basis.
Officials briefed that 74 ghats will be developed on a 560 km stretch of the Godavari in Telangana, with works to be completed in the next 23 months. Consultancies experienced in Pushkaralu and Kumbh Mela will be engaged for planning.
Revanth Reddy further instructed departments to utilize central schemes like Swachh Bharat and Jal Jeevan Mission, and seek a special package from the Centre to meet the large influx of devotees.
The review was attended by Minister Konda Surekha, Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, Principal Secretaries Shailaja Ramaiyar, Seshadri, Srinivasa Raju, Spiritual Advisor Govinda Hari and others.
